About Separia™.
Separia is a private membership and community for people navigating separation and divorce, built by a family law attorney. Separia is not a law firm.
The platform was founded in 2026 by Aliette Hernandez Carolan, a family law attorney with 22 years of practice.
What Separia is for
The point of Separia is not to help you survive your divorce. The point is to help you build the life that comes after it.
Divorce is a doorway. Most people walk through it terrified, alone, and convinced the best part of their life is behind them. None of that has to be true. The Tuesday after your case closes, you can be at the gym. The Saturday after that, you can be in the painting class you have been thinking about for ten years. Six months from now, you can sit next to your ex at your kid’s school play, exchange a civil nod, and go home to a life that is yours.
That is what Separia is built for. Not for processing your divorce. For walking through the doorway with your eyes open, your strategy clear, and an actual destination in mind.
How Separia thinks about this
Knowledge is the foundation. The adversarial legal system was not designed to help people resolve conflict. It was designed to produce a winner and a loser, and to charge both sides hourly for the privilege. Almost nobody who enters that system understands how it works before they are already in it.
Separia exists to flip that order. Learn the system first. Then make decisions inside it. The members who do best at Separia tend to share a few traits. They are willing to understand the financial, legal, and emotional terrain in front of them. They want strategy, not sympathy. They are interested in the version of their life that exists on the other side of this chapter, and they are willing to do the work to get there.
The goal is amicable resolution within whatever legal constraints exist for your situation. Sometimes that means mediation. Sometimes it means a contested case handled with as little damage as possible. Either way, the destination is the same: a life that is bigger than the divorce that got you there.
A note from Aliette
I’m Aliette. I built Separia.
I litigated complex marital and family law cases for 22 years. Ten years ago I went through my own divorce with two kids.
I built Separia because I would have loved to have had this space to learn, grow, share, and it did not exist. I had the legal knowledge. I had the professional network. I still had nights when I sat in my kitchen with no idea what was about to happen to my life. If that was true for me, with all of my training, I knew exactly what it was like for everyone walking into my office without it.
This is not academic for me. The information inside Separia is the information I wish I had handed myself. The voice you will hear on the weekly call is mine, and it is the voice of someone who has lived this from every side. As your attorney, then as your member, now as someone who can tell you that the other side of this is better than you think.
What you get inside
Attorney-authored content on the legal, financial, and personal dimensions of separation. Organized into four stages: Before, Between, Through, and After. You join at the stage you are in. You move between stages as your situation changes.
A weekly live session with me. Submit your questions. Hear how this has played out for the hundreds of people I have walked through it before you.
A community of other members. People you would actually want to know. Doctors, designers, lawyers, founders, teachers, parents. People in the middle of something hard who are also building something on the other side of it.
A short list of vetted professionals when you need them. Financial advisors, mediators, therapists, coaches, real estate specialists. Personally interviewed by me. Not a referral mill.
Separia is a web application, accessible anywhere in the United States. A mobile app is in development.
What Separia is not
Separia is not a law firm. Nothing inside Separia is legal advice on any individual member’s situation. Membership does not create an attorney-client relationship with me or any other attorney.
Separia is not therapy. It is not a substitute for licensed mental health care, and members who need that kind of support are encouraged to find it.
Separia is not a document preparation service. Members who need divorce paperwork prepared are referred to The Quick Divorce, a sister platform.
